Indie - Adopted!
*Please, read through the full bio, Indie is looking for a special home! **
Meet Indie! This adorable mini Aussie is sweet, fast, fun and smart! She is approximately 7 years old and in good health after a dental cleaning and five teeth extractions. She is fully vaccinated and spayed.
Indie loves to engage in a good game of tug with her foster mom and loves to solve puzzle toys to win treats. Her favourite pastime is watching the squirrels from the front window. Indie has completed 3 levels of scent detection and loves the job (along with the treats!). Indie walks fairly well on a leash with her harness and travels well in the car. She is crate trained and loves her licky mat. When you come home she barks to let you know she is waiting but will greet you with a sit to be let out of her crate. Indie is house trained and low maintenance in the house.
Indie is slowly learning the calm way to watch the world go by. She gives a low rumble or short bark to alert her foster mom that someone is going by the house and gets rewarded with a treat for coming away. During street walks she reacts to strangers on the street, particularly those with dogs. She’s timid so figures the best defense is a good offense. Indie has now learned that sitting at the side of the road brings the treats out, which has taught her to ignore the scary things going by.
In the home Indie was not exposed to many experiences so she is wary of new people. She alert barks but if ignored, and given time to meet the new people at her own pace, she will accept treats from them.
Off leash (long line) she can play with dogs who match her play style and has a great recall. In the home she will guard against other dogs over food or “her” person. She does live with another dog, but is well managed.
Indie is looking for a rural or low-density neighbourhood so she doesn’t have to get her exercise with street walks where she would meet lots of leashed dogs. She requires a special home with adults only and a family or person willing to manage her interactions. Like a lot of herding dogs, she is protective of her home and yard. Indie requires a person or couple who are willing to work with her and to take things slowly. People who don’t have a lot of parties or people coming and going all the time will suit her best.
