Meet Apollo, a 7-year-old Male Australian Shepherd. Apollo is up to date on his vaccinations and is in general good health. He is a little overweight therefore currently on weight management food and regular exercise plan.
This Blue Merle boy is as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. He is sweet and quiet and provides a comfortable presence. All that being said he is still an Aussie and needs an experienced home to manage his herding tendencies and strong willed mind. Pollo settles nicely in the house and although with coaxing can be crated he prefers and has been non-destructive and quiet being left for a work day in a confined space and loose in the house overnight for bedtime. He enjoys car rides and will watch out the window or during extended trips falls asleep for the drive.
Pollo needs to be in a home without or children 12+ as he has been known to herd and move children to his satisfaction, it is best to go to a home without cats as he seems like any small creatures showing interest that could result in chasing/nipping. He has also shown interest in fast moving cars on street walks or in the yard but does not react to slower moving cars that are found on typical suburb street walks. He gets along with the dogs that we have tested him with. He has met a variety of dogs of different ages and sex and seems fine with everyone but may a little pushy for an older insecure dog (no issues on meeting just very interested in them).
He loves his squeaky toys and chasing a ball (although his “fetching” skills are lacking ;) ). He is content and happy to be outside for long periods of time, he likes to help out when doing yard work or chores and sunbathes when sitting quietly in the yard. He is happy to be a dog that is loved and adore with a little attention and not anything too much or overly affectionate as he can be a little aloof. It is important that there are rules and boundaries for him that are clear and positively reinforced as he can and will be pushy. In typical Aussie fashion, he learns very quickly and will listen and do almost anything you ask as long as you are clear.
This is a very good dog that through no fault of his own turned into a shelter now needs a forever home that will understand and love him.
